It is probably one of the most famous dishes in Portuguese cuisine, but it is important to prepare it with care. Check out and try our Portuguese-style steak.

When I went from Sweden to Portugal, I tasted a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes. If there is one dish that is well-known in this country, it is unquestionably the one we recommend in our recipe. Portuguese steak has a huge following, which is understandable given how tasty it is.

However, it must be prepared with care and affection since there are tricks, variants, and combinations that can make all the difference. So, look over the ingredients, preparation, and notes before specializing in Portuguese steak.

Portuguese Steak


Ingredients:

  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into thin slices
  • 2 trimmed beef steaks weighing 200 g each
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • qb of salt
  • qb of pepper
  • qb of olive oil
  • 1 egg

Preparation:

  1. Fry the potatoes in a fryer with a small amount of oil.
  2. Add salt and pepper over the meat to taste.
  3. Put some olive oil in a pan and heat it up.
  4. Add the crushed garlic cloves to the pan.
  5. Then add the steak and cook on both sides until done to your taste. Put aside.
  6. Fry the egg in a separate frying pan. Take out and lay over the steak.
  7. Serve the dish on a platter with potatoes beside it.

Tips:

  • Pick your favorite meat cut. We recommend steak on the flank.
  • Before putting the steaks in the pan, beat them if you find it comfortable.
  • Depending on your taste, you can adjust the amount of garlic.
  • Consider serving it with a small side salad.
  • If you desire, serve with a side of pickles and black olives.
